Pee-Wee Herman

Way back in 2004 (I think), I was approached by Geoff Beckett of Shocker Toys to produce some custom designs using his Shockini toy action figure. I was definitely intrigued by the idea, and wanted to show off which characters might work best as Shockinis. Unfortunately, I had three projects lined up, and four base figures to work on. Luckily, my buddy Stephen Morrissey (aka Anubis8) suggested a Pee-Wee Herman custom, and voila! The rest is history!

Pee-Wee is simply a Shockini reworked with minor sculpted details. The bowtie was made from cut vinyl, and the handkerchief is created using styrene. The face was created digitally and applied directly to the custom after being printed on Micromark decal paper.

Anyway, the Shockinis went on tour for a year before I had a chance to finally photograph them. They’ve definitely seen better days, but I’m happy I had a chance to work on the project. For certain characters, the blockiness of the Shockini design is perfect.

And besides, how often to you get a chance to work on a wacky project like Pee-Wee Herman? I might have to give him a bicycle at some point.
