When I first began on my Fleischer Studios Superman custom, I made plans for a Lois Lane custom to accompany him. Unfortunately, I got a bit sidetracked and forgot about this project for a while. I was finally able to get back to her a few months later and now the set is complete.
The Fleischer Lois began initially as a DC Direct Saturn Girl figure. Clear vinyl is used for Lois’ dress and lapels. Kneadatite is used to form the gloves, hair and hat. Rather than sand away at Saturn Girl’s boots, I built up the rest of the upper leg with Kneadatite to eliminate the top of the boot line. In a similar fashion, I added a drop of liquid Alumilite onto each eye. This smoothed the surface and once painted, all traces of the original eye sculpts were gone.
All in all I think she turned out okay. She’s not great, but not bad either. Lois is a bit thicker than I should have liked, but she’s about as close to on-model as I could get at the time. Still, she looks great standing next to the Fleischer Superman. Now, if only we had a Fleischer Perry White…
