Angel turned out far more clunky than I had originally intended. At first I wanted Angel to be as breathtaking and streamlined as possible. The Alex Ross painted cover to Marvels #3 was what inspired me. However, this would conflict with the initial Jack Kirby design from X-Men #1. I scrapped my original concept and instead went with a bulkier, stocky design.
Angel uses a DC Direct Golden Age Green Lantern figure as a base. Most of the costume ornamentations from the base figure were sanded away and rebuilt using Kneadatite. The boot cuffs were made using clear vinyl, as were the gloves. The original Green Lantern hands were a bit too small, so I replaced them with some spare hands I had lying about. The head is a reworked Golden Age Flash while the wings came from DC Direct’s Hawkman. Or Hawkgirl. They’re both the same size. Anyway, the wings are screwed directly into the back of the figure, but it still allows for articulation. Now all I need is a custom stand to display him in a flying position.
